I
have been really good friends with John Force and Kenny Bernstein for
some 35 years. This past Sunday was the first time that I have been
overcome by emotions at a race track. Two friends involved in, what
looked to be, a possible fatal accident was a very big gut check for
me. These guys drive very fast race cars that are well prepared and
tuned, but we never know when something will happen that could possibly
change life forever.
One thing I am aware of is that all
things are sifted through God's hands. Good things may happen to bad
people, bad things happen to good people, and God allows all of us to
be tested and tested. We all at one point in life are up on the mountain
and we all have been in the depths of the valley. It is from the valley
that one learns the most. John understands that God has a purpose for
his life and I am one who firmly believes he will spend his recuperating
time continuing to thank God for protecting his life. I know that Kenny
stated it very well in his post accident remarks "we all need to
be praying for John and his family; our prayers are for his comfort
and recovery during this very difficult time".
I know that the Bible states God will
not put anymore on us than we can bear and when He does press us, He
will provide a way out. The Bible also states, "trust in the Lord
with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding; in all
your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path." Most of
our spectators place race car drivers on a pedestal and think they are
invincible. I wanted to write this letter for one reason and that is
to remind you that we are not invincible and to get each one of you
to pay attention to what both John and Kenny have been saying in their
releases and interviews. They know that their lives are in God's hands
when they climb in into a racecar and they know He has a purpose for
their lives. I wanted to say that you can only have this comfort if
He is your personal Savior. If He is not, I pray that this accident
awakens you to understand that you need to ask Him into your heart.
Kenny is doing great, even though he
is a little beat up; John will recover after a long rehab of all four
limbs. They both could use your words of encouragement and your thanks
for being class acts, and of course, your prayers.
God Bless
