February 2010
The 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Season is officially in gear and Team Force is off to a great start! Our first race of the year was at our home track in Pomona, CA and it was a very special event because it was the 50th anniversary of the Winternationals! It was a great weekend and we had beautiful weather, which was very fortunate considering we’d had weeks of rain leading up to the event. I went out in the 2nd round against my father and he went on to win the entire race! It was a great day, especially since it was Valentine’s Day! My mom had joked that morning that all she wanted for Valentine’s Day was a win trophy and that’s exactly what she got! All of our family, friends and sponsors were there and it was a great way to kick off the 2010 season!
The next weekend we headed off to Phoenix, AZ where we currently are as there have been rain delays that we have had to work around. We got most of the race in on Sunday but had to come back out to the track Monday for the final round. I lost to another teammate, this time my brother in law Robert in the 2nd round, and he went on to race my dad in the semis. Dad got the win and now faces Jack Beckman in the final round. We are here at the track waiting out the rain and hoping to cheer on dad’s team in another final round. But unfortunately it was his day to come in second to Jack Beckman! My cats Simba and Gizmo are here and have kept me very entertained, as this has been a very long week since we got here last Wednesday. We actually drove up that day and then I flew back to LA Thursday to attend the LA Boat Show with my sponsor Nordic Boats. Top Fuel dragster driver Cory McClenathan was also there and we signed autographs together for a few hours before heading back to Phoenix for the race. This has been a very emotional and exhausting weekend but it’s great to see dad in another final round. We hope to get this race in today but we’ll just have to wait and see. We then will have a few weeks off before our next event on the tour, all the way across the country in Gainesville, Florida.
Have a great week and we’ll see everyone in the sunshine state! Ashley
